Dr. John J. Kastrup

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. John J. Kastrup was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. During this time he also began doing research and was involved with the original pioneering work on ACL reconstruction for the knee. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988. During medical school, Dr Kastrup continued to do research, and his work is referenced in many textbooks.

After his orthopedic residency, Dr. Kastrup completed an additional year of sub-specialty fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in Adult Reconstructive Surgery, which involved the treatment of arthritis and joint replacement for hips and knees. In addition, extensive training in shoulder procedures was also undertaken.

Dr. Kastrup is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and he is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has received multiple awards including America's Top Surgeons and America's Top Orthopedists by Consumers' Research Council, and Who's Who in Medicine. His interest and dedication to finding a cure for arthritis led to his long-term involvement with the Arthritis Foundation during his previous 12 year practice in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kastrup uses the newest techniques in joint replacement as well as the rapid recovery protocol. In addition, he uses cutting edge pain management techniques, which allow patients to be comfortable without using intravenous narcotics. Dr. Kastrup does minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, including the new partial knee replacements. In fact, he was one of the first surgeons in the United States to do minimally invasive hip replacements. Dr. Kastrup joined Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in January of 2009.
